Croatia's EU leap www.euronews.net The referendum in Croatia on whether to join the European Union has come out in favour. If all goes to plan, the state of 4300000 people on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea will become the 28th member of the bloc by July 2013. But although two thirds of voters said 'yes', just 44 percent of those eligible to participate did so in Sunday's ballot. This seemed to point to resignation rather than enthusiasm. In Zagreb, the capital, one citizen said: "I believe it is a good thing. I think it means my six children will have a good future ahead of them."

The main square in Zagreb, held a protest against the Croatian accession to the European Union, which was organized by the Movement for Croatia - not in the EU. Opponents have called on the citizens of tomorrow to round up against, and today they go to download illegally prominent European Union flag in Zagreb. Police on Jelacic Square in Zagreb, according to latest information, arrested six participants and organizers against joining the EU. Among them were N. Kovacevic, M. Francisković, Ivan Pernar and Drazen Keleminec. The conflict arose after one of the protesters said that these are the thieves who were dressed in police uniforms. The detainees were brought to the sextuple investigated. The set ended just before 14 hours. The protest against the EU and in Rijeka Gathered about 100 people to protest against the EU in Rijeka, which was organized by the united association of citizens. - We want to be heard against the EU because the EU reduced workers' rights and a lot of nondemocratic, as seen through the European Parliament. This is the only body elected by the people, in fact, the Commission makes all decisions. There is zero tax rate and I think people are not informed enough, because watching the mainstream media - said one of the organizers of the protest. She added that in these media people can only see the arguments for joining the EU, or if you are against it are right-wing arguments that are based on a national basis, and only speak about the loss of their <b>...</b>

On January 22nd, Croatia will be holding a referendum to decide whether to apply for EU membership. A vote "yes" could make Croatia the EU's 28th member on July 1, 2013. Companies like beverage crate-maker Kaplast see great prospects. They would be producing goods "Made in the EU" for a market more than a hundred times larger than their own small country.
