England and Chelsea captain John Terry will stand trial after Euro 2012 over allegations he racially abused an opponent during a Premier League match, a move which appears to clear way for him to play in the tournament. The defender is accused of shouting abusive comments at Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand during their clash in October. Terry did not attend Wednesday's first hearing into the case, where his legal team entered a plea of not guilty. The Westminster Magistrates' Court then set a trial date of July 9. Download link here: fileloadnu.com WikiLeaks founder can be sent to Sweden, Belmarsh magistrates court rules Esther Addley and Alexandra Topping - guardian.co.uk, Thursday 24 February 2011 The WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is to be extradited to Sweden to face allegations of rape and sexual assault. Assange will appeal, his legal team has confirmed. If they lose he will be sent to Sweden in 10 days. Speaking outside Belmarsh magistrates court in south-east London after the judgment, Assange attacked the European arrest warrant system. "What does the US have to do with a Swedish extradition process?" he asked. "Why is it that I am subject, a non-profit free speech activist, to a $360000 (£223000) bail? Why is it that I am kept under electronic house arrest when Assange had earlier heard the chief magistrate, Howard Riddle, dismiss each of the defence's arguments. Assange's legal team had contended that the Swedish prosecutor Marianne Ny did not have the authority to issue a European arrest warrant. The magistrate ruled that she did possess this authority and the warrant was valid. Julian Assange's lawyer Mark Stephens reacts to the extradition ruling Link to this video Ny's credibility had been questioned by the defence team but Riddle said those doubts amounted to "very little". A retired judge who had criticised her, Brita Sundberg-Weitman, had no firsthand knowledge or evidence to back up her opinion, he said.

Network Rail Pleads Guilty Over Girls' Deaths - BBC News coverage - January 31, 2012
Network Rail has admitted three health and safety breaches over the deaths of two girls at an Essex level crossing in 2005, a court has heard. Olivia Bazlinton, 14, and Charlotte Thompson, 13, were hit by a train as they walked over train tracks at Elsenham station footpath crossing. Lawyers at Basildon Magistrates' Court said Network Rail would plead guilty. Chris Bazlinton, Olivia's father, said the plea showed the family had been misled. Mr Bazlinton, 63, from Farnham, Essex, said: "I am glad that Network Rail has pleaded guilty to what after all are criminal charges. It proves that we have been lied to over the years. www.bbc.co.uk www.bbc.co.uk BBC © 2012

War crimes a public/citizen enquiry This enquiry was held at Old Street Magistrates Court in London England, January 2012. The purpose of this enquiry was to identify the facts and to decide whether enough evidence exists in order to convict modern day war criminals. This enquiry was focusing on the Iraq war. 'Piracy' student Richard O'Dwyer loses extradition case
TVShack's student founder can be extradited to US, court rules US customs agents seek to prosecute Richard O'Dwyer over TVShack, which linked to sites carrying pirated shows and films Richard O'Dwyer with his mother Julia after appearing at Westminster magistrates court in London. Photograph: Luke Macgregor/Reuters A British student can be extradited to the United States for running a website linking to sites carrying pirated TV shows and films, a court has ruled. Richard O'Dwyer, a 23-year-old student at Sheffield Hallam University, looked downward as district judge Quentin Purdy ruled that there were no valid reasons why he could not be sent to New York state for trial. US customs agents are seeking his prosecution over a website O'Dwyer set up when he was 19 called TVShack, and ran until his arrest last year. He ruled that the case met the test of so-called dual liability, also dismissing arguments that extradition would be a breach of O'Dwyer's human rights. The student, whose father, Peter, is a retired GP in Bolsover, Derbyshire, remains on bail and will ...
