In doing so, he used a special technique that we have only known from Hollywood blockbusters until now. Critics praise that the 3D technique might have never been used in such a meaningful way as it is used here. In discussion with 2010LAB.tv, Wenders reveals his motifs.

The exhilarating new film from German master Wim Wenders, which was shot in 3D to capture the brilliantly inventive dance world of legendary choreographer Pina Bausch. Wenders had conceived with Bausch a dance film like none seen before, one which would take the fullest advantage yet of new 3D technology to put the viewer deep inside Bausch's playful, thrillingly unpredictable pieces. After her untimely death in 2009, Wenders continued with the project, turning it into the most exciting tribute he could imagine. Sensual and visually stunning, Pina uses 3D to remarkable effect, taking the audience into Bausch's work in her imaginative sets (a gliding monorail, a bare stage covered with chairs, a towering man-made waterfall) and powerfully rendering the beauty and sheer physicality of the dances and dancers of her Tanztheater Wuppertal ensemble.

Pina was premiered at the Berlinale; now it can be viewed by everyone at theatres: Wim Wenders has dedicated his film to the deceased choreograph and ballet director Pina Bausch. Yet it is not a requem that Wenders has staged here but an ode to life and to the love of dance art. Wenders spoke about his personal relation to Bausch and his approach to his new work which he sees as homage, documentary and dance film at the same time. www.2010lab.tv

We took our 5-year old son, Logan, to see the movie Pina. After the movie he got up on stage and did a little interpretive dance of his own while the credits rolled. I love how he ends up in a pool of light at the end of the stage at the exact moment the music stops. The applause is from about 25 people who stuck around to watch. I think we need to get him into dance classes.

I made this video after I got back from watching 'Pina', a documentary by Wim Wenders about the dancer and choreographer Pina Bausch. I played Bjork and started dancing, without knowing what to do. I just knew I wanted to dance a feeling, a feeling that I have been usually unable to verbalize. There is a part in the movie that Pina says, "words only give hints, you must dance". She is painfully right, & here I am trying to dance what is unspoken. I feel less alone after watching the movie. And what else to expect from a movie? Some of those dancers danced things that I had felt. They depicted sadness for example. They did not dance with sadness, nor did they dance sad, they danced sadness. Same with joy, insecurity, humor & love. The movie made me laugh and cry and melt in my chair. I think we all should think about our significant feelings, the ones that have shaped who we are, the ones that keep coming back to us and grip our throats, and "dance them". Dancing is not just a performance of beauty & balance; dancing is another way of feeling our feelings, experiencing them, watching what they do with our bodies, their impact, tension, release, & witness our weaknesses and strength through it. If our feelings are what make us human, I think all people must dance to be more human. Many times I have made the gradual painstaking effort to create strength in me, to stand up & hold my chin up, and it all has fallen down with a little trigger. and I have done it again & again ...
