EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre Q&A about 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, Baku In May the Eurovision Song Contest will take place in the newly-built Crystal Hall, in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. Azeri and international campaigners have approached the European Broadcasting Union with concerns about the general human rights situation in Azerbaijan and the country's preparations for the Song Contest. In this interview EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre explains the process that led to the Song Contest taking place in Azerbaijan, and responds to some issues raised. She points out that Baku is a fast-growing city undergoing a radical makeover, and that the Eurovision Song Contest is not to be used as a "platform to advance political issues". The Eurovision Song Contest has been hosted by 24 countries, with regimes of varying political colour, in its 56-year history. It is also the longest running entertainment format in the world, watched annually by over 100 million fans from Europe and beyond.

During the 100-minute event, the Mayor of Dusseldorf will hand over the Host City Insignia to the Mayor of Baku. The ceremony will be followed by the Semi-Final Allocation Draw. During the show, the slogan and theme art for Baku 2012 will also be revealed.
