The Edmonton Oilers host the San Jose Sharks tonight, who are currently in third place in the Western Conference. While the juice is high, the writing appears to be on the wall for this matchup. The Edmonton Oilers have turned into the Tampa Bay Rays of the NHL. Not the modern-day Rays but the team from the early 2000's that consistently finished with the worst record in baseball each season to stockpile top draft picks. That appears to be all the Oilers are playing for...again. They've drafted in the Top 10 for three straight years including having the No. 1 pick in the draft in back-to-back entry drafts. They've won just four of their last 21 games, and while their chief competitors for the top pick -- the Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets -- have shown some signs of life recently, the Oilers continue to sink lower.
